La Marzocco is proud to have participated in this past weekend’s Red Bull Flugtag event in Istanbul, Turkey (August 4th) winning the competition on the Caddebostan coast. La Marzocco distributors in Turkey have teamed up with the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts Students to create a KB90 Straight-In Portafilter plane.
Red Bull Flugtug is an event where participants create handmade “planes”, challenging brave and creative minds. Competitors attempt to drive the planes as “human-powered flying machines”. Teams of four jump into the water from a six-meter ramp using the handmade planes in an attempt to have the record airtime before plummeting. In this case, a plane designed as our newest advanced and groundbreaking innovation Straight-In Portafilter, painted by student Ergin Sume.
The Coffee Lovers team included pilot Cetin Gurer human powered by Aysin Aydogdu, Baris Somer, and Umut Ozturk. The event was live streamed on local channels with over 200,000 viewers. Since the first Red Bull Flugtags has been held in 1992 in Vienna, Austria more than 150 Red Bull Flugtags have taken place around the world.
